A country in chaos
As 60,000 people try to flee New Orleans rescuers have stopped trying to evacuate people over safety fears. Helicopters have been shot at, fires have been started, shootouts have been engaged. Understandably these people are tired, hungry, hot, and frustrated. It is not undertstandable that the human nature being unveiled has turned ugly. All over television the images are of people wading through water carrying flat screen tv's, radios, and even cars from lots are being stolen. Breaking in to walmart for fresh clothes and a case of bottled water is one thing, taking all the guns from the outdoor section is another.
And as New Orleans becomes more disruptive a national crisis is blooming. Price gouging at the gas pumps is happening all over with prices in Atlanta almost $6.00 for unleaded. By-products of crude are also going to skyrocket as well as coffee and gold. We are on the verge of a recession like no one alive has seen in this country. There's nothing in sight that will reduce the pressure. Get ready for job losses, bankruptcies, foreclosure's, and even divorces to peak in the next year.
Ladies and gentlemen, the kindling to start the fall of Rome has been lit.

What if someone broke into Wal-Mart and stole a gun to shoot an animal for food to feed their family, huh, Mr. Smarty-Pants? What then? Your tidy little model of "right v. wrong" doesn't have a place for that sort of thing, now does it?
But seriously, the sheer scale of chaos going on down there shocks me. And the sheer scale of the looming recession scares me.
And I already blogged about that way back on Sunday. NYEAH!

And bi the way, dictionary.com agrees with me on the spelling of by-product, so put that in your pipe and smoke it!
Admittedly, "Bi-product" would make a good title for a multi-scene, mixed-action girl-on-girl/girl-on-guy porno.

This my friends may be the start of WWIII. With looming conflicts with Iran and N Korea, the continuing debacle in Iraq, and the inevitable Civil War we'll have here over gas prices, this may spell the end of society as we know it. Prepare for the Dark Ages to return. Dibs on the black jewel encrusted Mead Stein.

The questions, my friends, are will the current administration step up and wave the gas tax, bring troops home to satisfy the security and relief needs on the Gulf, and release emergency funds so that the rebuilding effort does not add to the ongoing financial strain that middle America is going to endure.

Oh, bds1313, you 'bds'-es are all the same. You fall into the same trap that the 1,312 'bds'-es before you fell into.
"Looming conflicts"? Using which Army? The one that is currently "fighting the terrorists abroad so that we don't have to fight them at home", and which will not be leaving Iraq until our yet-to-be-defined job is done? And which currently has plans to be in Iraq for another 4 years?
But you do bring up some interesting ideas. North Korea, for instance...I totally forgot about those guys! Is Kim Jong-Il still causing trouble, these days? Haven't heard a peep about them for a while.
Iran, on the other hand, is going to be a doozy. The whole nuclear program is but a minor concern, relative to their plans to start an Oil Bourse, in which oil trades will be done in Euros. Especially now that the BushAdmin has pissed off the entire population of Europe, I'm sure a lot of big players would jump at the chance to buy oil in their native coin, rather than incur the exchange fees. Without the entire global oil trade to prop the dollar up, we're gonna be double-extra-super-screwed.
Me, personally, I'm stocking up on gold, vegetable seeds and firearms.

disgustedem;
BWAH-HAHAAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, that's funny stuff man.
I'm trying to imagine a world in which the BushAdmin did something that wasn't directly intended to shit on us common folk, and/or enrich their corporate cronies, but unfortunately, my imagination is not that good.

I heard that GWB is blaming Katrina on Iran's nuclear tests causing warming effects. He's got 30,000 soldiers in buses from NO heading over there now to "free" them.

I heard a bunch of people saw an Iranian-looking guy on the levies over the weekend before Katrina hit. They think he sabotaged them.

Kim Jong was scheduled to meet with several countries to talk Nuclear stuff and he rescheduled as usual. I'm guessing that in our chaotic state, he may take the opportunity to throw his hat in the race for the first country that can battle in the US and actually win. We are a crumbling society and will soon be at our weakest point in history.
Do I blame the administration?
Absolutely !!! But it's the current and past included in my synopsis. I think the government as a whole is to blame for the US having the biggest ego known to man. God help us if Iran and NK decide to join forces in their takeover of the U.S.
In regards to transportation, I'm still voting for the Tube idea ... or maybe invest in a Segway. Those lil' bastards will still get me from A to B faster than walking.

bds, when you say:"We are a crumbling society," I'm assuming you don't intend me to start picturing a yummy fresh coffee cake, with that crumbly, brown sugar top layer, that serves as a perfect counter-texture to the warm, spongy cake....mmmmm
I'm assuming you don't intend that, but for some reason, that's all I can think of.
I'll be back...I've gotta go to the bakery.
